Peece's x COKO

Climate change is a problem that affects us all. And the fashion industry is a big part of this problem: it alone is responsible for 8% of global CO2 emissions. With 1.2 trillion tons of CO2 per year, the entire textile industry is even ahead of international flights and cruises.

As part of this industry, as a fashion online shop, we are aware of these numbers. From the very beginning, it was a major goal to offer a real alternative to the numerous fast fashion shops by selling second-hand fashion at Peeces. But we too are still at the beginning of our journey towards an increasingly climate-conscious system. Another step on this path is our cooperation with COKO .

COKO calculates the CO2 emissions for each product individually.

You can select a voluntary environmental contribution in your shopping cart.

The environmental contribution is put into sustainable environmental projects - in our case these are Project Wings and MoorFutures.

Who is COKO and how does the environmental contribution work?

COKO offers you the opportunity to make a positive contribution to climate protection in your daily consumer behavior. In concrete terms, this works in our shop in such a way that you can pay a voluntary environmental contribution with every order you place. This contribution is then donated to various environmental protection organizations, NGOs or startups that COKO works with. You can read below what these are in our case. The team behind COKO is Patrick, Philipp and Maik. The guys from Hamburg have made it their mission to reduce CO2 emissions in fashion e-commerce with their newly founded company. Their vision is: to create digital solutions that positively influence our consumer decisions - for the preservation of the environment!

In the case of a return, this environmental contribution will not be refunded, since it is a voluntary gesture towards nature. By the way, we want to offer you full transparency here: The voluntary environmental contribution that is displayed to you consists of the actual contribution that is required to compensate for CO2 emissions + 15% commission for COKO employees. This commission enables COKO to offer this service.

How is the environmental contribution calculated?

The first step in working with COKO was to create transparency regarding our own CO 2 emissions. This applies, for example, to the original production and processing of the fabrics, as well as our trade and the transport of the clothing. On the one hand, COKO analyzes and evaluates the value chain of our products. On the other hand, individual data from our shop is queried, such as the weight of the pieces and the power consumption in our office.

With second-hand clothing in particular, it is of course not always clear how old the product is, how often it has been worn and where it comes from. That is why we have used an individual calculation method based on various studies and external standardized databases. COKO then translates the result – the calculated CO 2 emissions – into a € amount: the environmental contribution. This can vary depending on the type and weight of the garment.

An overview of the emissions in our value chain can be found here:

Which projects does Peeces support?

All COKO project partners contribute in different ways to protect our environment. We have decided to support Project Wings and MoorFutures with the collected donations from the environmental contribution.

Project Wings

Indonesia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. At the same time, it is one of the countries that suffers the most from the plastic pollution of our planet. We were able to see this for ourselves on a trip to Bali in 2018. Project Wings immediately appealed to us precisely because of the beautiful nature and the unforgettable time that we were able to experience ourselves in Indonesia . On the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the largest recycling village in the world is to be created from plastic waste and ultimately more than 250 tons of plastic will be recycled. Project Wings is working on this together with the locals and at the same time creates awareness of the garbage problem in the population.

MoorFutures

"Effective climate protection is moorland protection", that is the motto of MoorFutures . Because moor landscapes are not only home to many rare and endangered animals and plants, they are actually also an effective CO 2 store. With your environmental contribution to MoorFutures, you support the organization in its mission to protect the moors of Schleswig-Holstein and make a positive contribution to our climate.
